Kanban Board for Translation: Manage Localization Tasks Visually
Translation projects involve multiple people, multiple languages, and multiple steps. Without visual tracking, it's easy to lose sight of what's been translated, what's waiting for review, and what's already approved. Glot's Kanban Board brings visual project management to translation workflows — giving teams a clear, real-time view of every task's status.
Why Kanban for Translation?
Kanban boards have proven their value in software development, content creation, and project management. The same principles apply perfectly to translation:
- Visual status tracking — See at a glance how many tasks are pending, in review, approved, or need rework
- Bottleneck detection — If the "In Review" column is overflowing while "Pending" is empty, you know the reviewers need help
- Team accountability — Each card shows the assignee, so everyone knows who's responsible for what
- Progress reporting — Stakeholders can check the board without asking for status updates
Four-Column Workflow
Every translation task in Glot moves through four stages:
- Pending — Task has been created and is waiting for the translator to begin work
- In Review — Translation is complete and submitted for quality review
- Approved — The reviewer has accepted the translation — it's ready for production
- Rejected — The reviewer found issues and sent it back with feedback for the translator to fix
Each column is color-coded (gray, blue, green, red) for instant visual recognition. The task count badge on each column header lets you assess workload distribution at a glance.
JSON Translation Tasks
Unlike traditional translation tools that only handle plain text, Glot supports JSON key-value tasks. This is specifically designed for developers and localization engineers who work with i18n JSON files:
- Paste your JSON directly:
{"home.title": "Welcome", "home.subtitle": "Start here"} - The task displays a structured table with Key, Source, and Translation columns
- Translators fill in each value individually — no risk of breaking the JSON structure
- When approved, download the translated JSON file ready to drop into your project
Board View vs. List View
Glot offers both views, switchable with a single click:
- Board view — Four-column Kanban. Best for overview and planning.
- List view — Filterable task list with status badges. Best for finding specific tasks or filtering by status.
Both views support the "My Tasks" filter to see only tasks assigned to you.
From Task to Production
The complete workflow from creation to deployment:
- Create a JSON task with your source i18n keys
- Assign a translator and a reviewer
- Translator fills in translations and submits for review
- Reviewer approves or rejects with feedback
- Once approved, click "Merge to Editor" to download the translated JSON
- Drop the file into your project's locale directory — done
